Our History
The advent of the Theotokos Institute was a 2005 discussion with St David's Catholic College in which it was determined that one way forward for Catholic education in Britain was to strengthen its presence in the realm of higher education.
In this regard, the success of various Orthodox Institutes for study was encouraging, to the extent that it signalled the feasibility of such places in a Catholic milieu offering courses for a range of people in the fields of history, theology, and spirituality.
Originally it was conceived that, under the umbrella of St David's College, a degree in some aspect of theology, accredited externally, might be offered. But in light of numerous considerations - not least the fact that there are so many subjects that are worthy of closer examination, including Patristics, iconology, and language - it came to be seen that a broader approach with greater opportunities for flexible study would be more suitable.
