Academic Staff - Piero Tassinari
Piero is Research Associate at the School of Historical Studies of Newcastle University, and a member of the research project, 'Towards a Galen in English' led by Professor Philip van der Eijk and funded by the Wellcome Trust.
He was born in Trieste, Italy, and currently resides in Penarth, Wales. He earned his first degree in Philosophy and holds a Ph.D. in Greek and Latin Philology as well as a Conservatoire Diploma in Instrumental Music.
Piero has published several studies and translations on the history of Greek science during the classical and Byzantine periods, including the first critical editions of ps. Alexander Aphrodisiensis De febribus and Theophilos Protospatharios De urinis, and the complete Italian translations of Galen De elementis, De temperamentis and De placitis Hippocratis and Platonis.
A keen sailor, he has also written books on nautical history and has been involved in maritime heritage preservation projects.
